"The Stinking Rose"

I was passing by on the way to get a tattoo. I didn't know this was The Stinking Rose until I was editing it. LOL. It's an Italian restaurant in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood that features garlic in almost everything.

I loved the checked sidewalk and the repeating tables, chairs, and awning and I immediately thought of this in black and white.

I have never eaten there because, alas, I am gluten-free. Going to an Italian restaurant and not being able to eat pasta is just sad.

“ God Hates Shrimp ”

This is Joe, one of the founders of godhatesshrimp.com. It was supposed to be a short-lived joke and a way to use humor to make fun of people who used the bible to back up their anti-gay slurs. Well, Joe and their friend Ryland (may he rest in peace) started this in 2004 and it's still going strong.

In 2007 Joe appeared on radio talk show and Shirley Phelps Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church called them a 'dumbass'. Joe filed the Shellfish Suppression Act in 2015 to ban shellfish in the state of California. Taylor Swift made a nod to God Hates Shrimp in the video for "You Need to Calm Down" in 2019.

The God Hates Shrimp Facebook group has 6,846 members who mostly share shrimp-related jokes. (Joe is also my partner and I may be biased that they are a celebrity.)

Through some combination of poor time management, a few days sick, and not being thrilled with any of the pictures last week, I somehow didn't get anything submitted by the deadline. But if I'd gotten my act together it probably would have been this one... On the plus side, it turns out correcting perspective is really easy in Darktable! #52frames #blue #photography #darktable

The first week of the year for 52Frames is self portrait time. I wrote a poem in a mythical writing workshop led by Hannah Custis on
A New Possibility a few weeks ago. I decided to combine that poem with my self portrait.

I thought a foggy mirror would work well for this idea. The photos of me and of the poem were both taken on January 1st. This is the second year I've worked on the self portrait on the first day of the year. It may become a tradition.

Thanks to framer Gadgetgirl75_photography for the suggestion of overlaying words as an alternative to writing on my skin. I couldn't get a volunteer for that at this time of year. Maybe next year. And I decided to put most of the words covering the empty part of the mirror. Hopefully you can read my handwriting.

Even though you can't really see me, this photo & poem make me feel very vulnerable. Well, this is how I'll start my fourth year of 52frames

52Frames Week 42

Oh, Hi. It's hard to believe that I've been able to complete 42 weeks of the 52Frames Photo Challenge, but here we are. This week, I really wasn't sure of my submission.

I reached out to my mini-group, and they voted for the picture below. Their comments included that this one met the challenge better and was stronger in technical aspects: focus and centered subject.

This is a photo of the door mat just inside our garage entry door. I made this photo for this week's #52frames 'On the Ground' challenge. I decided to isolate a small stray leaf that happened to be sitting on this rug. I was excited about using my macro lens and bringing out the texture in the rug. I opened the door to our office just to the right of the frame to let in the afternoon light which was the only lighting in the shot.
