Got any basis to compare with Finnish?
My friends tell me it's fiendishly hard. But some of them are Finns, so they might be pulling my leg.
@weekend_editor Fins understand Estonian, Estonians don't "understand" Finish. It is sorta like Poles, and Belarus -- if you've been exposed to the language it is different topic, but if not .. might as well be Danes speaking to Swedes .. the Danes grok everything, and the Swedes will go to harms cause of the weirdos that can't count.
@weekend_editor I am a strange beast ... I'm polish, my mother tongue is polish and despite being in Sweden for 30 years .. I count in Polish. My wife, she is half Estonian .. and the kids go to an Estonian school (and initially kindergarten ...) ... and we live in Sweden .. it was always a comedy show switching between three languages in a single sentence. We mix all three at home, freely .. today, I had to read a bed time story in Estonian without understanding 90%.
Years ago, I had a colleague from Estonia (Talinn). He kept telling me that your native language was probably the language in which you count money.
Couple years later, I was in the Netherlands. Guy in a shop spoke absolutely perfect English (probably RP accent from the BBC). But when I paid for something, he made change whispering the count to himself in Dutch.
@weekend_editor Counting and cursing .....
I had a colleague who learned that cursing bothered me a bit. So he asked what languages I spoke, and after that cursed only in Yiddish.
So to this day I know several words that are probably curse words, but I have no idea what they mean!
