@ColinTheMathmo hey, i don't think we have to stop discussing! i've really enjoyed thinking about the way math is taught. but maybe we should recalibrate the convo since it seems like we've misunderstood one anothers thoughts

@stripey @JordiGH I have a longer reply/discussion currently incubating. I don't know of any existing available medium for a "proper" discussion of this sort of thing.

Also, I've been reminded of how much of my ability to communicate clearly is conscious and learned. And fails when I'm tired *and* jet-lagged.

I'll return to this when I catch up a little with other things.

@ColinTheMathmo part of it, imo, has been that I'm not sure what your background is! it seems like we're pulling examples from very different fields in math, so that may be the issue?

@stripey It could be, and I'm trying to work out how to explain better. My quick response to try to help has turned into a monster, and I really don't have time to deal with it now.

But I want to come back to it to understand better your position, and to explain better what I was trying to say. Just not now.
