If you're at a loose end RIGHT NOW and want to see some wonderful silliness then the European Tram Driver Championships is taking place. Featuring events such as Tram Billiards and Tram Bowling, it's watchable on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=GMI7UaJMwW (playback available later, of course)

Edit: I'm watching a Twitch stream rather the YT: twitch.tv/ellenfromnowon (@ellen is great. You should watch her content)

@mattp
At a loose end? Often. Want to see some wonderful silliness? Always!

@xanna I am disappointed my former city of is not participating

@mattp I can't see any British cities, that is surprising and a shame. But hey my home of Dublin is competing! Come on you trams in green! 🇮🇪

@mattp I have to admit that I don't understand the event with the cardboard cutout. I get that the team-mate places it, and I suppose has to place it in the optimal position, but is there more to it from the driver's POV?

@xanna The non driving team mate places the model tourist and the driving team mate has to pass as close as possible. But the driver can also choose to announce that passing is not possible without collision and if correct then scores 150 points

@mattp So there is lateral control of the tram? I thought that the same tram on the same tracks would always be in the same place laterally speaking?

@xanna I don't believe there is lateral control; the strategy is based on both the placement by non-driver, and where the driver stops the tram (since the measurement is made when the tram is stationary) and the track curve adds to the challenge.

@mattp I getcha, that makes sense. Thanks :o)

Sweden pulling ahead now!
