Alright y'all - please throw in your favorite facts about the number 238. I am writing up the Carnival of Mathematics post and am diving into untouchable numbers - what other fun facts do you love about 238?
Thank you everyone! I added your inputs to the blog post and manage to post it on the 38th minute of the hour - so it's 2:38 somewhere in the world.
@fractalkitty I like that the first digit to the power of the second digit is the third digit
@fractalkitty Of course uranium-238 is the most common isotope of uranium.
@fractalkitty @futzle I believe that it is, or was many years ago, @mjd’s second favorite number.
@ranjit @fractalkitty @futzle Because I was born at 2:38 AM on this day in 1969!
@mjd @fractalkitty @futzle drat, I'm about 20 hours too late to wish you a happy birthminute.
@ranjit Still plenty of time to get ready for next year!
@mjd I'm setting an alarm!
@ranjit In the past when I found myself awake at 02:38 I would sometimes sing myself a verse of “Happy Birthday”
@mjd That's better than my thinking "THX o'clock" whenever I notice that it's 11:38. Which is just your birthminute but in the Pacific time zone, I guess.
@fractalkitty It's "EE" in hex.
@fractalkitty Number Gossip is good for this sort of thing:
@fractalkitty It's the number ways to label a connected graph with 5 nodes that stays connected if you remove a node. No, that wasn't a favorite fun fact before just now; I just did an OEIS/Wikipedia dive.
@two_star I played with that a bit yesterday - and I got bored.
Do you know of any 3d shapes or polyhedra with 238 sides I could procedurally generate?
I may have to do an animation with the 5 nodes if I can't find something else.
Also - love the disclaimer that this wasn't sitting on your list of favorites before.
@fractalkitty Sadly I just learned about this page, a little too late: https://oeis.org/wiki/Annotated_version_of_%22What%27s_Special_About_This_Number%3F%22_(Part_0)
