I prototyped a font for slugs - I give you Sluggly:
@fractalkitty for all the Glubby fans
@fractalkitty Hey that is a cool font, what is the license?
@raphael I need to get the right wording and double check that the font squirrel conversion files don’t have any caveats(otherwise I’d have to purchase glyphs or something). The license on my creative work is a CC-BY, but am open to conversation and recommendations.
@fractalkitty I think CC-BY can’t be compatible with font files (font being both programs and drawings). Most open source fonts uses OFL: scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&id=OFL
@raphael thanks for the info- I would like to make this an open font, so this makes sense. I should probably learn more about this. I want to share open source and CC works. Essentially- not trying to monetize, but also don’t want to get sued.
@fractalkitty Lots of fonts are released under this license, see https://usemodify.com/ and https://velvetyne.fr/ for instance.
@raphael excellent- thank you for the examples
@fractalkitty This reminds me of the guy who set out to design a font based on the shapes made by eels, but seemingly gave up and ended up just releasing a video instead https://www.abyme.net/catalogue/anguille/
@theohonohan wow I just went down a rabbit hole
@fractalkitty There must be someone at #UCSC who would like this for Christmas. Banana Joe’s at #CrownCollege could have used it for their signs, but they’re long gone, I think. #BananaSlugs
