Cymbidium ensifolium in semi-hydro attempt no. 2. Let's hope this one doesn't rot in a week like the first one😐
@elliotshimizu The only plant I've tried in semi-hydro that hated it was Dischidia vidalii (syn. D. pectinoides). Good luck with the Cymbidiums! I don't have any yet.
@ajdunevent Thanks! I've had two Cymbidiums that are more or less successful in semi-hydro (putting out new growths and new roots, but no flowers yet), but those are different species. I hope the most recent failure is just a stroke of bad luck.
Ooh I looked up D. vidalii, and the pictures of the leaves reminded me that I've read about this one in a blog: http://www.indefenseofplants.com/blog/2018/4/2/vines-that-house-ants
It's the only Dischidia I grow but I grow several other myrmecophytes and quite a few members of Apocynaceae.
I assume you're somewhere in the NH area. When the weather gets warmer, I'd be happy to send you some of the D. vidalii seedlings that germinated for me (or if you happen find yourself in NW AR before then, hand them over).
Ooh, that sounds like an awesome project, if only I had more growing space. Living in an apartment isn't too compatible with a plant hobby, so I guess I'll have to make do with my milkweed for Apocynaceae😛. Thank you for the offer though!
