Fortunately, I was just round the corner from home and, most importantly, not at the bottom of the hill!So now I know whether I can pedal it under my own steam!

Christian Lawson-PerfectHad a really nice day taking the kids in the <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/CargoBike" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#CargoBike</a> down to South Shields. A relief to confirm it does fit on the Shields ferry - the conductor slid the door open wider and there was loads of space inside. We went to The Word and then along the seafront, but got a puncture on the way back! Fortunately, I managed to push it to AS Cycles, which turns out to be a really good old-fashioned shop, and got back on the road in no time, now with a spare inner tube and pump in the bucket. Getting back up the hill from Tynemouth pier was a struggle, but with the kids chanting "you can do it" (and full motor assist) I did it! Christian Lawson-PerfectI rode my <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/CargoBike" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#CargoBike</a> in to <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Newcastle" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Newcastle</a>! Took pretty much bang on an hour, according to my phone. So not quicker than my non-electric bike, but much less tiring. There were quite a lot of roadwork barriers along the way, but fortunately there was space for me to squeeze through all of them. Took me a while to find the uni's secure bike storage. Unsignposted to confuse thieves, but also confuses CLP! So I don't think this makes sense for my regular commute, but it might be handy to have the bucket bike on days when I have to shift big stuff around campus. Or Christmas shopping...?
