It's been a while I posted an #introduction - if I ever have, come to think of it. I'm just another random guy on the internet with a passion for #keyboards (of the mechanical kind), and #firmware in particular. I work for, hacking on #Kaleidoscope and #Chrysalis.

I'm also known for dabbling in weird stuff, like putting #hy in production. I'm a #lisp (#clojure before, #fennel lately) and #debian fan, living in #emacs.

That's the kind of things I post about, and #parenting, and...

Ah, no, imapsync isn't an option. It's one-way sync between imap servers. I don't need that. I prefer Maildirs locally. I could, of course, set up a local dovecot with Maildir storage and sync there, but nah, that feels a bit of an overkill.

OfflineIMAP and isync are also packaged for Debian, imapsync isn't.

So do I go with OfflineIMAP, or do I try isync?

Ended up going with #isync, primarily because I haven't tried it before.

I had good experiences with #OfflineIMAP in the past, but the python2->python3 migration hit me hard, because OfflineIMAP became unusable for a rather long period of time because of it. Such a thing is unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future, but one such experience ended up being enough to sway me to the alternative.

To make things easier, I archived my current - unsalvagable - mailbox, and started fresh. I did save a couple of important mail over, but other than that, it's all fresh.

Doing so lets me rebuild my notmuch tagging rules as things happen, without having a lot of legacy baggage.

@algernon Can I tempt you with a web interface [1] to written by a fellow contributor? It seems to be somewhat stalled, but maybe just needs some enthusiasm.

@bremner Lucky for me, one of the things I practiced a lot lately, while trying to reorganize how I do things, is saying "no". Mostly to myself.

So while I am tempted, and it does look interesting, and I did bookmark it, I'll leave it at that. For now. :)

(It did take 15 minutes to gather the strength to not look and experiment further, but ultimately "no algernon, you don't have time" won.)
