covid19

NS is back down to single-digit numbers of new #covid19 cases per day, all travel-related with no [known] community spread [yet], kid's back in school, and I'm looking at this Globe & Mail op-ed on the Atlantic Bubble: theglobeandmail.com/opinion/ed

covid19

Q: why is vaccine rollout so slow in my country

A: main purpose of vaccines was to boost stocks of pharma bigcos and immunize wealthy; capital will not pass up a chance to use disease as an avenue to keep workers in a precariously servile state, so capitalists absolutely will hold vaccination back from workers and "unworthies" if they can get away with it

covid19

While we're averaging 0-2 cases a day in Nova Scotia, neighbouring Newfoundland is having a significant outbreak of the far more contagious B117-variant #covid19, focused on a high school in St John's:

—a spike that shows just how suddenly things can change with this pandemic even in places that were previously doing well.

Our local respite from #covid19 seems to be over, with a new surge of new cases in Nova Scotia and a bunch of exposure notifications right in our neighbourhood, including our regular Chinese takeout place. nshealth.ca/news/potential-exp

TX and AL state govs know that gaps in healthcare + shredded social safety nets make #covid19 esp deadly for minorities in service positions, plus other marginalized populations. Withdrawing protective measures now, just months from the promise of mass immunization, is a last-ditch genocide maneouvre.

Sudden jump in #covid19 cases here with 9 new cases in Nova Scotia, all travel-related. Seems like two separate groups landed here already infected, but all are isolating. novascotia.ca/news/release/?id

covid19

Got a #covid19 test yesterday, first time actually going through the ordeal. Been coughing with a sore throat for a few days, most likely a cold my kid brought back from school (he tested negative for that last week) so I'll be surprised if this turns out to be actual covid.

covid19

Nova Scotia's jump in cases is turning into a full #covid19 outbreak, with at least one cluster driven by someone who arrived from Ontario and *invited people over* before their isolation was done.

Authorities are shutting down travel and asking people to get tested, but it's worth noting this outbreak also comes just a couple weeks after they opened up malls, restaurants, and gyms to 100%.

NS deep into #covid19 third wave and now in full lockdown. halifaxtoday.ca/coronavirus-co

Cases seem high, with new case acceleration probably driven by variants but really case positivity with increased testing is much lower compared to the first wave, as shown in Shotwell's charts: covid.shotwell.ca/

With #covid19 vaccine eligibility opening up to our age ranges, wife and I are now lined up for our first Pfizer shots in two weeks -- and second shots 4 months later.

Got second Pfizer shot—earlier than the original 105 day schedule due to increased supply, but I did have to drive up to Truro for it.

covid19, food

we were at the beach yesterday and it was kinda crowded and then a couple approached us and asked if we wanted to sample their homemade hummus and i threw caution to the wind and said yeah and they gave me a little cup of hummus and let me fish around for a cracker from a ziploc bag and i only realized much later how risky that was, despite the low covid case count and high vax rate in NS, but hey free hummus

(i didn't buy their hummus, needed more salt and garlic)

covid19

a week out from my second dose i wonder how much mrna spike protein is in my balls now

covid19

Turns out the "spike protein in my balls" toot was extremely relevant as mRNA #covid19 vaccines have been found to cause statistically significant increases in sperm count (although within normal params of individual variation) jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/

covid19

(sorry, should have more precisely said "correlated with" rather than "have been found to")

covid19

Whew, another negative COVID test, so I didn't pick it up in the ER

covid19

Not that the risk was extremely great; as of today only 15 people are known to have COVID in NS, all traced and isolated, and a good percentage of the provincial population is fully vaccinated. (Still, we have a 5 y.o. kid and an untracked breakthrough infection is always a possibility.) halifaxexaminer.ca/featured/4-

covid19

So now NS is hurtling towards a full reopening with no more masks next week, just as the borders reopen and a Delta-variant-driven fourth wave surges through Canada, spiking the infection rate in the province. Kids -- including still-unvaxed under-12s, *including* my son just starting primary -- are back in school, with what feels to me to be insufficient protection, because those in power still seem to think think kids are immune to Covid.

covid19

The liberal gerontocracy's public messaging was "STAY HOME TO STOP THE SPREAD, FLATTEN THE CURVE" back when the elderly were most vulnerable, but now that they're vaccinated and little kids are the ones at risk, it's all "wE hAvE tO lEaRn To LiVe WiTh CoViD"

Either they're willfully ignorant of variants' risk to the younger unvaxed, or they will just gladly sacrifice children on the altar of number-go-up rather than pay parents to keep children home or even ventilate the schools properly

covid19

whew, NS delayed full phase 5 unmasking/reopening till october because of a spike driven by clusters of the unvaxed: halifaxexaminer.ca/featured/no

NS reopening schools to in-person learning on Monday, despite the ongoing Omicron variant surge. At the same time they're stopping school contact tracing, and de-emphasizing case counts in public updates. Everyone I see is all "good, we can't live in fear anymore" and "we're learning to live with covid" so yeah it's probably going to be hellworld in a few weeks

@brownpau It's an easy mistake to make. "Live with" is right next to "Die from" on the emojiboard.
