You have got to be fucking kidding me.

chat.freenode.net has address 126.96.36.199
@bremner Anyone could have registered libera.net. Is there any proof Freenode did it?
@wire Short answer: yes. Long answer:
openssl s_client -connect chat.freenode.net:6697 </dev/null 2>/dev/null | openssl x509 -noout -text | grep DNS: | sed 's/DNS:/\n/g' | grep libera
@wire To expand, whoever controls the TLS certificate for chat.freenode.net added an alternate name for irc.libera.net, so that TLS connections to irc.libera.net would forward to chat.freenode.net without complaining.
@wire @bremner My guess is that they’re doing this as a deliberate troll, because they know people like us will flip out about it and make ourselves look fanatical to the more moderate tech folks who are on the fence about whether they should care. Because it’s not like making some people accidentally end up on Freenode is going to have much impact.
re: Profanity, Freenode.
@bremner lmao of course they'd set up a lookalike
wonder if a UDRP complaint would go anywhere
