asking for varied Linux recommendations

I just bought my first laptop (a refurbished ThinkPad X1 Carbon), and this will be my first "real" system I can use Linux on (outside of my Pi and a VM on my parent's desktop). I would really like recommendations for setting it up. Some things I would like recommendations on:

* Distros (I've worked with Raspbian, Debian, and Arch)
* WMs (I've been kind of interested in testing out i3)
* Utilities
* Tips and/or tricks
* Learning resources

Honestly I'm looking for advice on anything and everything, really. I'm really quite inexperienced with this but I'd like to know more

Links and descriptions would be greatly appreciated :D

@acciomath Personally I really like elementary OS and it's "Pantheon" window manager, and it's a great one for getting started. It's nothing like i3 though so I don't know about you.

As for learning the commandline, once you know the basics and how to ask for help (via man, -h, or --help) it's trivial to pick up the rest as you need it.

@alcinnz Thank you :) I think I've heard about elementary before 🤔

@acciomath linuxquestions.org a beginner friendly forum site. It's been around for 19 years.
