While this fact is really amusing (and nightmare fuel for debugging old codebases) strto* does set the errno so this is not a really big deal.
At least i would say that if there weren't some tutorials out there who would still use the ato* functions.

From the manpage of atoi:

Today i learned that the atoi functions which are responsible for converting strings to integer, float, longs, longs longs, etc., return 0 on error. They don't set the errno. They RETURN 0.

zur weiteren Information. Ich hab mal vor Jahren einen dreistelligen Betrag dahin überwiesen um blanko was zu bezahlen aber warum bekomme ich das jetzt zurück???

The three thoughts my brain has every time i read ANYTHING about C++:
1: I don't know anything about C++
2: Why is the language so redundant???
3: Historical reasons. Who would have thought?

aka. the "ugh i need to write some diagrams 🙄" phase.
