Hey, , can any of you explain to me what kind of cable is supposed to go into that weird-shaped thing that's labelled USB 3.0?

@JordiGH usb3.0 cable, of course. It looks like this weird-shaped hole only as a cable that goes into this hole.

@JordiGH Sir that's a USB 3.0 Micro B port. You just need a USB 3.0 A <-> USB 3.0 Micro B cable.

@nicodemus So there is more than one kind of usb 3.0?

@nicodemus Weird. This explains why I was able to plug in a cable that was only covering half the pins but the OS couldn't read at all.

@nicodemus Btw, are you Indian or is that "sir" just meant to be funny?

@AddyFinch Thanks. Now I have to figure out if we have one of those.

@AddyFinch Update: we don't! Ordered and should arrive next week. So annoyed with the allegedly universal serial bus right now.

@JordiGH Yeah, I have I think exactly one device that uses that (a portable HD), but have mistakenly picked those cables up before. Frustratingly uncommon/semi-standard.

@JordiGH it looks like a mashup between USB-C and HDMI ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Œ

@JordiGH @nicodemus has a good image to show the plugs but dangerously leaves out the small distinctions between micro-a, -b, and -ab. octodon.social/media/XNG4Js6ll

I think USB needs to stop gloating about U it is.
