@stripey What I do is pick up an undergrad maths book on a subject I know well. That way I already most of what they're talking about. For example, I like this book on #GaloisTheory:

It's kind of interesting when the French call some things completely differently, though! For example, I think they always refer to the extend Euclidean #algorithm as Bézout's lemma (I may be misremembering).
