I don't know why I have this obsession of trying to work on a problem until I intimately understand it.

I do this with math too. I don't really have to know the proofs of every result I use, but I can't help trying to at least wanting to know why something is true, even if it's just in broad strokes. I won't stop until I get it.

This ends up wasting a lot of time as I absorb details that aren't really important.

@JordiGH Right up until they are. Most of my Masters research time has been spent on "wait, what?!" digging into those nasty edges of things that looked superficially clear.

@kimreece I get that kind of surprise too all the time.

But still, there isn't enough time to delve into every detail!
